Centerville Family Practice Now offers Coronavirus Serology Test
Also known as SARS-CoV-2 antibody test.  This test checks for presence of antibodies to coronavirus in blood.

Antibodies are protein particles that your immune system produces to protect the body against pathogen.  Your immune system has a memory, therefore, if you get exposed to the pathogen in the future, your body will use these antibodies to protect you from infection.  These antibodies take about a week after the infection to be detected in blood and remain positive long after the infection.

This test does not detect the virus itself, so it is not used to diagnose acute infection.  This test detects a past infection with coronavirus.

Which antibody test are we using?

We are using LabCorp’s ELISA assay for SARS-CoV-2 antibody bands: IgG, IgM

IgG turns positive within 7-20 days of infection and tends to persist for over 6 months (likely years).

IgM turns positive within 7-20 days of infection onset and fades away within 6 months.

Who should get COVID 19 antibody test?

We are offering antibody test to asymptomatic (not exhibiting any signs or symptoms of active infection) patients only.

If you have mild cough or runny nose or still recovering, you should not be tested.  We have to wait until you recover completely in order to test.

What is the process to get tested at the clinic?

All patients will need to consult via telemedicine before they can be considered for Coronavirus serology tests.  If testing is determined to be appropriate, We will draw the test in the office.

How long does it take to get the results?

Expected turnaround time is 2-3 business days.
